Weekday Studies Details

Tuesdays

Men’s Bible Study

7:00-7:45 A.M. | Vance Hall (MW-222)

This Bible study, comprised of approximately 40 men of varying ages and backgrounds meets weekly and is led by The Rev. Sandra Randleman. This fall Sandra will lead the group in a continued study of the book of Exodus and the pilgrimage of the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt to the Promised Land. It is a story of God’s faithfulness to His covenant promises despite the Israelites continuing failure to honor God and respond with gratitude to God’s provision of all that they need and so much more. The trek through the wilderness is a journey of spiritual formation. In the story of the Israelites, we may see our own spiritual journeys from a state of fear and bondage to a new life that is abundant and filled with gratitude for God’s guidance and our many blessings.

Presbyterian Women’s  Circle

Second Tuesday of each Month: September through May

Presbyterian Women Circles help women build close relationships through Bible study, caring for one another and a variety of local and foreign missions projects. Starting with the appearance of noted author Liz Curtis Higgs on September 10, we will be studying Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them. Each monthly meeting begins with a contemporary woman’s story, relates it to a biblical woman’s story, and then helps participants explore such issues as self-reliance, temptation, and deceit. Morning Circles 1-4 and 7 meet at 9:30 A.M. with Circles 1-3 meeting in the Cheek House and Circle 4 (mainly moms with young children) meeting in The Gathering Place.

  • Cheek House Morning Circles – 9:30-11:00 A.M. in the Cheek House, childcare available
  • Young Women’s Circle – 9:30-11:00 A.M. in the Gathering Place, childcare available

Wednesdays

Women of the Word (WOW) Morning Group

9:30-11:00 A.M. | Vance Hall (MW-222)

This friendly and welcoming group for women meets in Vance Hall. Beginning Wednesday, September 11, we will be reading and discussing the book, It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way, by Lysa Terkeurst. Lysa poses the question, “What do you do when God’s timing seems questionable, His lack of intervention hurtful, and His promises doubtful?” She has discovered that our disappointments can be the divine appointments our souls need to radically encounter God. We will be invited to see our lives in the context of God’s bigger story.

Contact leader Leslee Bechtel if you would like to join this group of women that are eagerly seeking God.

Contemplative Prayer

4:00-5:00 P.M. | Prayer Room (CC-150)

Join The Rev. Sandra Randleman for a study of contemplative prayer. We engage in a time of lectio divina followed by contemplative prayer. Everyone is welcome! We are all beginners and instructions are provided!

The only thing to seek in contemplative prayer is God; and we seek Him successfully when we realize that we cannot find Him unless He shows Himself to us, and yet at the same time that He would not have inspired us to seek Him unless we had already found Him.”

Wednesday Night Communities of Belonging Gathering

Beginning October 2, 6:00-7:00 P.M., dinner 5:00 P.M.

This fall, beginning October 2 and continuing for 8 weeks, we will explore Godspeed. In a culture where time is of the essence, we rarely slow down enough to be relational. What would happen to our lives, our relationships, our ministry, if we were to simply slow down, be intentional and live at Godspeed? This study will illustrate living slowly, doing life outside of walls, the crucial necessity of relationship, and the eternal value of seemingly simple practices like walking through the neighborhood.

Dinner is available with registration on Wednesday Nights from 5:00-6:00 P.M. if you will be attending any of the Wednesday night groups.

Below are the Community of Belonging Groups participating in this study. Choose your desired group and register for your group and dinner here.

Thursdays

Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study

7:00-8:00 A.M. | Vance Hall (MW-222)

This study, led by The Rev. Sandra Randleman, meets weekly. This fall we will begin a study that compares the story of Jesus from the perspective of the four Gospels.  We will use “parallel” Bibles to study the text of each Gospel and how the teachings and life of Jesus are presented in each of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  We hope to learn more about the person of Jesus and what He taught His disciples through His words and actions.  The participants in this study are a warm and welcoming group of women who enjoy our time together, praying, studying the Bible and engaging in some mission projects as well.  All women are welcome!

ME Mornings: A Mary and Elizabeth Ministry

Are you a mom with young children, under the age of 6? Join with other moms for a morning of tending, nourishing and sharing your soul. While moms enjoy time with one another, the children will receive loving care in our nursery. Toddlers and preschool ages will have their own Bible study!

We encourage moms to attend whenever they can! We understand that life with a little one is filled with surprises that often interrupt the best laid plans. Each ME Morning is unique — if you miss one, there is nothing to “catch up on.” We offer a variety of topics, activities, etc. throughout the year, ranging from Bible studies to guest speakers to outings and serving opportunities.

Contact:  Deb O’Brien or Jessie Yancey for more information about the ME Mornings program.

Nursery questions can be directed to Karen Fitts.
